Hi Everybody,

I am getting tempted about getting a airbrush system. There is one on an australian website that I think I will get. But before I get one, I am just wondering how often people use them, and if they are worth getting? and what sorts of cakes you use them for.

Any advise is much appreiciated.

Thanks,
Liv

Hi Liv

I use a project air compressor from bunnings. its the totally enclosed one with built in regulator and tank. this compressor is oiless and very clean to have in the cake studio. The internal tank is large enough to do heaps of airbrushing between compressor runs. I do not like a noisey compressor running all the time. this one builds back up very quickly and cycles off. We leave ours on all the time and it does not leak down.

As far as the actual airbrush you can get a top shelf one from a hobbie store for around $100.00

I picked up a nice sparmax.

The compresser was around $180.00

This was a huge savings over those kits we see with the airbrush and little constantly rattling compressor.

As far as how much you will use it, We use ours in some form on at least 90% of our cakes.

You can PM me if you have any other questions.

they are almost indispensable i think

i either used them constantly or longed for one when it was not available and i'm not even very good/detailed with them

now i think it's noteworthy that margaret braun says in her book,

" A word about airbrushing: Paint your cake--airbrushing is for T-shirts and vans." pg 87 cakewalk

whooo whoooo whooo

that from the picasso of cake painting but

mere mortals like moi spray it on like Earl Scheib (auto painter)
