I am making a hexagonal wedding cake.  This will be my first of the shape.  I make my wedding cakes with 3 layers of cake and 2 layers of filling.  I am looking for information on the correct sizes I should buy (pans).  All of the cake cutting / serving charts are based on 2 layer cakes.

If anyone has any tips / information regarding pan size for a 100 person wedding cake that would be very helpful!

Thanks

Steff

6-9-12 would be good.  The servings are almost the same as rounds.  You'd be at about 75 - 80 servings and could have a small kitchen cake to make up the servings.

Even though the charts say a 2 layer cake, it would be the same for three layers.  My cakes are 4 layers of cake and 3 of filling and I just use the wilton wedding charts.  You can look up the Cakeulator on google too.  It will calculate it out for you either by volume or using the wilton charts.

Do you have the pans?  I haven't come across any odd sized hex pans, though I haven't really looked very hard... LOL.  So you could do any combination of 6-8-9-10-12-14-15 between Wilton pans and Fat Daddio's.  If it were me I'd do the 6-9-12 and have an 9" round out back to cut and make up the difference.

Hope this helps a bit.  :)
