Stencil Work On The Side Of A Cake, Covered With Fondant????

Hi all, question for you, this is my first attempt with stencil work....
I have to do a 4 tiered white fondant cake with black stencil work on the sides. Would you use a royal icing for that? Also, would the black bleed onto th white? And, if I cover in buttercream, would the black bleed worse with buttercream?
With using the royal icing and it hardening, how likely would it break/crack during transportation?
I am doing a 12/10/8/6, so would you have to use different size stencils? My thought is the 12in cake would need a larger stencil then the 8 or 6? The stencils are not going all the way around the cake, just on the front...
Thank you for your help
Hi. I have used black royal icing strencilling on white fondant several times on wedding cakes - they are in my wedding cake photos, here or on my website.
I have had no issue with bleeding, the only thing you need to be careful with is smudging and making mistakes - black RI will leave a mark if you need to remove a mistake.
I hope this helps. I don't do a lot of BC cakes, so maybe one of the BC experts will help out there!
I have only played around with stenciling...I practiced on a cake covered with white fondant and used black royal icing. It came out great!!!!! So much easier then I thought...
Good Luck!
