What would you charge for this cake?

I had a customer request this Hello Kitty cake and I'm really not sure what to charge for it.  She said she needs it for about 25 people so I would start with a 10" round right?  Please help!!

I am a small town in home baker, so I under price myself constantly.. Lol!! But if someone gave that to me to make I would charge them $45.

i think a 12  or 14 inch if you want to start with a round shape cake

 

if it was moi i would bake one fluffy layer in my 12x16--

 

because it is an oblong shaped face

 

then all i would have to do is round the corners and

 

use those pieces to make the ears

 

i suggest you consider charging as high a price as you can utter

 

a 25 serving sculpture should be at least $100

 

any 2-d sculpture should be at least a hunnerd bux

 

factor in the wink wink for the copyright image

 

oh yeah one hundred lucky bucks!!! easy

 

that looks like such a cool cake to make

There is a cake pan with this shape. That would make it easier if you could borrow it from someone. It looks like they baked the hello kitty part and then maybe made a sheet cake cut down to "double" it and then covered well with icing and then covered with fondant.

Since that's a sculpted cake we would probably charge in the $120 range. However, in order to make this cake either you or the customer would need permission from Sanrio, since Hello Kitty is copyrighted. When accepting these orders I require that the customer provide written permission from the copyright owner, otherwise they will have to settle for a more generic cake with a purchased topper.

But what if she makes it from a Hello Kitty cake pan? Is she then not infringing on the copyright?

Any cake made with a pan that is a copyrighted character is for home use only. Ie not to be sold. The company who produces the pan has the right to sell the copyrighted item to the public, but the public isn't allowed to sell any cake made from the pan without permission from the original copyright holder.
