can I stack a real cake on a dummy cake?

I have a woman who wants her daughters wedding cake to be large, she needs to feed 150 people but wants a 4 tiered cake, ( the bottom tier being and 16" round). my question is, can I make the bottom 16" tier a dummy, and stack the 14, 12, and 10" cakes on top of that one?

What possible reason could there be to stop you from doing so, so long as the dummy is capable of supporting the weight?

A 10" on top would be CRAZY looking, unless you have some sort of crazy topper to put on it. It is better than a dinner plate. And, that is 170 servings, or so. You could do a 6,8,10,12 for 130 servings. All CAKE.

I would rather make 1 cake for $150, than 3 for $50 each.

The person who works for nothing will always have plenty to do!

Yes, it can be done, but I agree with previous post about how it would look.

 

The biggest top tier I will do is 6", or 7" if there's a decent topper to go on it.

 

Only once I did an 8" top tier (when I was fairly new at it) and it looked really wrong - like I'd forgotten to put a cake on!

 

Good luck with your cake, though. :D

thank you, I'm glad you told me about the top maybe looking awkward , ill definitely consider that and recalculate my options
