Happy New Year! Share Your Best Cake From 2012!

Bragging time!!! I totally just stole this idea from Peggy Does Cake, but though it wold be fun here too! Share your best cake from 2012 and tell us why it's your favorite!
I'll start:
I did a lot of really fun cakes this year, but I think my favorite has to be this:
I wanted precision in the shape of the tiers, lots of sparkle and I wanted every single thing to be edible. So I made custom food-grade silicone molds, did isomalt gems and molded over 200 tiny broaches out of fondant that I handpainted with edible silver (complete with facets). Believe me, 1/2 way thru I wished I just had a bunch of plastic broaches I could have stuck all over it, but when I put that very last touch of sparkle on, I almost cried - It turned out perfect. All in all, I think this cake took around 40 hours to make.
As a perfectionist, I always can find a flaw on one of my finished cakes that nobody would ever notice or see, but in person I couldn't find a single one on this cake. It was also incredibly satisfying to open the pictures I took in Photoshop and besides trying to fix my bad photo taking skills (exposure, angle etc), there wasn't a single flaw on the cake that I Photoshopped out.
This is my runner up:
This cake was insane to make. I had never done wonky tiers, let alone ganached and fondant wonky tiers, I had never airbrushed an entire cake, had never made a 360 degree freestanding cityscape out of gumpaste that had isomalt windows and backlight by LED lights, heck, I have never used LED lights OR isomalt. I was petrified that I was going to fail miserably - but every detail turned out better then I could have possibly imagined in my crazy head. I was humbled and honored that a Bride actually took a chance on me making this for her wedding (they were a VERY fun couple).
Your turn!!!
Of course, now I would do a better border & the top wouldn't be crooked. I would pick one of my more polished cakes, but those figurines will be hard to beat in any of my future cakes.
This was my favorite and I think my best. I only decorate for my family and have not been doing this very long. Wanted to make something extra special for my mother-in-law's 90th birthday. The flowers were done without cutters using only templates from the back of Alan Dunn's book and some just freehand. A little challenging but very gratifying in the end.
ALove the cityscape! And the gold birds so much!! All the others are great, too!! I have two, also;-)
I had wedding cakes I loved, but these 2 really made me happy, and they were both made for my brothers :-D
Everyone's cakes are beautiful! This is my favorite. It was small (9"/6") and inspired by a cake I saw here in a thread. It turns out the original was a picture from "The Knot" and the baker is no longer in business. I had already made the large hot pink dahlia and just didn't know what to do with it. The cake was the centerpiece for a party I hosted for a dear friend who was home to visit after having moved to Europe (pictures of the entire party here ; sadly, I'm not the skinny, beautiful blond , that was the guest of honor. I'm the chubby, cute one ).The party was photographed by an amateur photograher friend; she did an amazing job. Not only did I love this cake, it got tons of attention here on CC (my first and so far only to break 100 favorites and be the most favorited of the day), on Facebook, and on Pinterest. I think it also is the cake that got me an invitation to submit to Cake Central magazine (which I couldn't do due to time restraints ).
This is my second favorite. It was a baby shower cake for a young woman who went to school with my daughter. Her mother was a dream customer. The cake was based on the invitation. I loved the colors and the theme. I couldn't help but fall in love with my little sugar baby boy in his sugar teacup! I almost couldn't bring myself to part with him. (As you can see, I learned my lesson after the dahlia cake was plastered all over the internet with no identifying info, I started watermarking my pics.)
Thanks for the fun thread! Happy New Year!

But this one is a close 2nd. This is the first actual decorated cake I have ever made.
My favorite is one many of you have already seen: my first edible image cake, my first (and so far, only) cake in the Wilton pan (with the plastic cover), the Leland Award cake.
And here it is. Concept sketch, finished product, and the spare set of edible images. Hopefully, the folks at the Printing Museum will approve.

Hi, I'm new at Cake Central.
This was my favorite cakes to make for 2012!
This Mini Mouse cake was my first three tier cake that I made and I enjoyed making this cake.
The Trumpet Tower Bug house cake was also fun to make.
This corset cake was my third cake I made since I started and I have realy enjoyed making this one too.
This Lightning McQueen cake was for my son, Ruvan. He had turned 3 in 2012.
This Castle cake was for my daughter, Jaylee. She turned one in 2012.
I had fun making all of the cakes that I have already done, but these ones is my favorite.

This is my absolute favourite of all year. It was a challenge and I had been wanting to do it since I saw it on another cake artist's website. When the bride told me they were going to China for their honeymoon, I had to grab the original and show it to her. She agreed on the design, we only made a couple of changes. I had never done tapered, double height tiers before.
Just sayin, I'm happy a few of you posted some of my favorite cakes that YOU did so I could get them on my Pinterest. I get to refer back to them and and steal from them heavily now.
Fist pump!
didja ever go the restaurant and when everyone's order arrives,
you realize you want what someone else ordered and not
what's staring up at you from your plate?
we call it being restaurant impaired
i wanna have made y'all's cakes !!!!!
but anyway
the cool thing about this cake is the ralph lauren cut crystal pedestal plate
that just happend to be perfect --sight unseen until delivery
and in person it made the cake to look floating due to the grand glass top foyer table
topper is chocolate
i mean how often does an unknown cake plate offered by a well intentioned relative
really ever fit the cake size and all?
just about never in my world
ralphie did good this time!!!!
and this is from 2011 but it's pretty cool
it's over 2 feet tall--it was for the terrapin triathlon party
he contacted me on a wednesday evening and needed it for Saturday
i was semi-retired then and my schedule was clear
he wanted a turtle cake
ok cool i thought a flat turtle cake i could pop that out
then he made the mistake of saying,
"i'll send you our logo, let your creative juices flow"
bwowahahahahaha
i mean i had no time to re-think it after i saw the standing up terrapin
i gave him a generous portfolio discount
