How much would this cake cost?

Hi everyone :)  I just finished my first wedding cake ever (the picture is below) and I'm pretty happy about how it turned out! :) Since this was my first cake, I charged the bride $450. I also had to build the custom stand myself (including the crystals and rhinestones).  My question is how much a cake like this would typically cost when purchased from a bakery.  Any input or advice will help! =)

Wow! You gave that cake away for at least 1/2 of what it should have cost them!!

The cake is adorable! icon_biggrin.gif I am curious to know your base cost? ( including ingredients and materials to make stand etc)

9x12x14? 6x9x12?

 

I think it's a 9x12x12 , a hex 12 and a square 12??

 

Like 140 servings give or take a few that's about  $3 a serving--yeah that's on the low side but fairly respectable for a first cake. But the stand would be all extra probably $150-200 maybe.  Yes I can easily see how doubling would be reasonable. You worked your tail off on that one. Bling bling and beautiful.

K8memphis, the tiers were made in wilton hexagon pans 9in, 12in, 15in and each had 3 layers inside.  Thank you for all your help and compliments, I really appreciate it! :)

According to my calculations, it was around $250....not much of a profit margin for me but hey, atleast i didn't lose money! icon_smile.gif

I would've charged $504 for the cake, and cost times 4 for the stand, or cost times 2 and gotten it back to rent out to future clients.

I would rather make 1 cake for $150, than 3 for $50 each.

The person who works for nothing will always have plenty to do!

Is $250 your total cost, including labor and allocated overhead? We would have charged at least $1K, there is a lot of labor involved in that cake.

That was just the cost of supplies, no labor included. I also agree there was a ton of labor involved with the stand. Since this was my "breakthrough" cake i didnt charge its actual price but now that I know what I'm capable of I'll be sure to include a labor and overhead cost icon_smile.gif
