Color Flow

Can color flow be placed directly on the cake.  For example if I were to make a pattern on wax paper with piping gel and lay it out on my cake could I use color flow on the cake?  I see where some say there is a waiting period for color flow.  Just not sure and I am hoping someone on here can help.  I see lots of cakes on here using color flow.  I have a few cakes to do in a few weeks and would like to give this a try.

I've never tried to use color flow directly on a cake as there is some wait time and you shouldn't refrigerate as the sweat from the color flow coming back up to room temp may ruin them.  Make them separately and put them on later.

I was told years ago the shortening or fat in the frosting would prevent the design from hardening. I have in the past tried the same technique with buttercream but it just didn't have the same quality or sharpness to it.

A finished color flow piece can be placed directly on a b'creamed cake but it might turn color slitghtly.  It depends on how thick the pice is and what colors were used.  I have placed some directly on b'cream w/o problems but w/others the white turned funny :(   They will NOT melt into a puddle if they have been well dried before being placed onthe cake. 

What some people do is place mini marshmellows or sugar cubes on the back of the CF piece before placing it on a b'creamed cake.

There would be NO problem using CF on a fondant cake.

So can you possibly tell me if this is what has been used on this cake?  This was made for a friend of a friend and I love how it looks.  But I asked and she said it was all buttercream.  So I am unsure I would just love to learn how to do cakes like this.

To me this looks like colored piping gel.  Perhaps they drew the grumpy lady by hand or projects the image onto the cake and outlined with black piping gel and then filled in with colored piping gel.

I bet the posted pic is done w/*CreamFlow* - an icing made by mixing Karo Syrup w/b'cream about 1/2 & 1/2.  A gal named Flowers came up with the idea many yrs back and has done some wonderful creations with it.

The reason I don't think it's piping gel is PG would - glassy looking.. see thru....don't know how else to word that.  It would look shiny - like water - yuck - I'm no good at coming up with the words to describe what I want to get across :)

Hmmmm, Cream-Flo, by Flowers...where can I see some of her work? Yes, Kakeladi...I'm stil trying to find easy ways...as you see I do some BC Transfers but gosh,...I fight with them...lol

 

I have a Mario Cart cake do to do for my grandson in a few days...and I wanted to try melted candy, but I always mess up with those...I wanted a smoother image...LIKE YOURS!!! lol....icon_biggrin.gif

 

I seem to freeze somewhere and cant get them thin and clean and smooth...So then I thought of fondant cut outs...FORGET THAT ONE!!! thumbsdown.gificon_mad.gif Fondant and I fought!!!  So....Cream-Flo????

 

Oh and this cake here is outlined in BC...and filled in with Piping Gel...that gives the shiney glassy look they are talking about here.

* BC, made with BC piping in black and Gel tinted...to give the glass effect...6" for a co worker. Marge
