Hi all, my bc has an after taste, i've used this recipe often it's non crusting. it's 1lb cs, 2 sticks of parkay i use one butter and one pakay  and 1 cup of crisco..i add a little salt i don't like an overly sweet bc. i made 3 double batche's and it has an after taste, does Crisco go bad i use the last of one and and new one. i also added another lb of cs to see if that would help. do you refrigerate your crisco. Thanks so much

AI hope you used ps (powdered sugar) not cs (corn starch). And yes, Crisco can go bad/rancid.

AI find frostings with Crisco tend to have an aftertaste. However, putting more than usual vanilla and letting it sit for a while remedies that. It needs a little time for all ingredients to blend together.

I'm sure they meant confectioner's sugar (cs). What are parkay and pakay?

Parkay is a type of margarine.

I just posted on another forum answering the same question. You don't have enough confectioner's sugar in your recipe and the butter/margarine flavor are probably overpowering everything. I'd get rid of the margaraine entirely and use all butter, and in the other thread you'd mentioned artificial butter flavor, so stop using that, too.

AI use 1 cup Crisco, 6-7. cups powered sugar, 1tsp butter flavoring or other flavoring of your choosing, water to add to thin out icing. I've never had ANYONE say anything bad about my icing....they usually request to know how to make it. STOP using Parkay or anything that is not Butter or Crisco, you need the fat in Crisco or Butter to smooth your icing. Good luck wading thru all our advise!
