A.Hi all, so I was looking at a bucket of buttercream i used before I found a great recipe for home made butter cream (32 LB).. Its all clean and germ free, so Iwas wondering if I can make tons of home made fondant and then store it in the bucket?? I thought this was a great idea for wedding cake prep and other things to have on hand fondant and save some space. Would the fondant dry out? I'm talking no wrapping just straight home made fondant in the bucket with a tight lid.. thanks in advance!!!

AIt will keep it from dryin out, but it won't last forever. It can turn, but it will be fine for as long as it usually is, mine lasts a couple weeks. Remember homemade doesn't have all those nasty preservatives.

AOkay, I thought its shelf life was a month? Maybe if I wrap it and store into bucket..

Use two layers of freezer weight zipped bags for your fondant.  Bag it up in one-cake balls, so that you only unwrap one bag at a time if possible.  Keep the closed bucket in a cool room or basement if you have one.  Your fondant would be OK for a month.

If yours lasts a month, then it lasts a month in a bucket or on the counter. If you can freeze it, in the bucket, it will last months and months. Btw, my fondant still works, it just gets a not so fresh feeling;-) after 2 weeks.
