AHi all, I've made my first ever cake, I've made cupcakes before but never ventured into cake making. I know it's nothing adventurous but it's my first cake and I'm quite proud of it, does it look ok? Thanks everyone xx

It looks better than ok!  It looks great!

You should be proud because for their first cakes, most people don't do fondant or squares.  You nailed both on your first cake.  Great job!

AThanks I feel much better about it now, and I've also learnt to use more fondant than suggested as I think I've put it on a bit too thin this time around as I didn't use enough, other than that I am really pleased with it. Just hope it tastes ok now lol :-) xx

Very pretty!  I love the color of the red bow.  Be careful, that "first cake ever" will become an addiction  icon_biggrin.gificon_lol.gif

Great job - square cakes are hard to do!  And good for you for putting it on a very cute board and not just card board or aluminum foil (like I used to do!) you want to showcase that cake!

"First ever" cake ?!? As in, you've never even just made a box mix, without any modifications, thrown it in a 9x13 pan, baked it, frosted the top, and served it in-pan?

Or just as in first decorated cake?

If it's the latter, it's still impressive. If it's the former, it's jaw-dropping, mind-boggling, and maybe even a reason to quit your day-job.

ALol the first one, I only just bought some cake pans yesterday, I've made the odd few cupcakes with buttercream frosting but never an actual cake :-) x

AI've never used box mixes either this one was made from scratch so hopefully it will taste nice :-) I actually thought a square one would be easier than a round one, oh well will have to try a round one next time :-) I wanted the red to be more red but was taking forever to get the fondant the right colour x

That was one of the cakes I had to do for a Wilton class.  My bow came out all wonky and to thick.  You did an extremely nice job.  Keep it up.
