I am trying to use up a container of Duff's "white" fondant which really has a yellowish tint.  I used my Americolor Super Red and it looked perfect last night.  When I pulled it out this morning though it had changed to orange.  Does anyone have any suggestions for how I can fix this?

Thank you!!

Kathi

AYellow and red together will make orange. Check the colors chart that may help.

It means that there is something in that Duffs fondant that caused the reddest dyes in your red colour to fade.

I personally consider that this means that the fondant is too old to be used as food (it's still good for covering cake dummies, and for flowers).

It also means that you would have trouble making purple (it would fade to blue).  If you need to rescue this stuff, then add cocoa to make it brown.

It isn't old at all.  It comes as an ivory color even though he calls it white. And the color is not faded at all, it is a BRIGHT orangey red.  I actually made purple yesterday and was able to get the shade I wanted with some work.  I think I just need to compensate for the yellowish cast of the ivory, but I am unsure how to do that.  Any ideas for what color to add?

Would it work to try adding a bunch more red?

You could try airbrushing it with Super Red.  That will fix the problem.

Thanks everyone.  I added a drop of purple to counteract the yellowish cast. Then I added burgundy, then some holiday red. It's pretty close to what I want now. I've put it away and I will check it tonight. Hopefully this will do what I want.  IDOCAKES2 I wish I could airbrush, but alas no airbrush here!

I'll update you all later with my results.

Thanks again for all the suggestions.

So, I added the colors previously mentioned and that helped quite a bit.  I then added more super red and it has been sitting more than 24 hours, and the color has remained a nice rich red. Hooray!!  I hope this can help someone else, too!

Thanks,

Kathi
