How to get 3 layers of cake 2 fillings?I need batter amounts?

I want to make 3 layers of cake in a 6" and 8" square pans. I realize 2 cups batter for the 6 and 4 cups batter for the 8 inch will yield 2" high cakes but I do not want a 6" or taller cake when I am done. I would like for the cake to be 3 layers of cake and 2 fillings about 4-5 inches tall.
I appreciate any advise.

I would fill the pans for the cake to be 2" tall because when you trim the top off, the cake is now less than 2" tall.

Well, then to get 3 layers of cake, put the 2 cups of batter in the pan and bake.  Next put one cup of batter in the pan and bake.

The simplest way is to torte the tiers :)   Just use a long knife or cake saw and cut a layer into two pieces - NOT in 1/2 but make one 1/2" tall and the other 1 1/2".  Put the 2" layer down, filling, the top w/a 1/2" layer; filling then top w/the 1 1/2" layer.
