Any tips about tidy up & cleaning kitchen?

Clean up a little as you bake and keep everything washed up as soon as you are finished with it. When you put cake in oven, wash up everything (bowls, measuring cups, etc that you messed up while mixing cake. When you take cakes out of oven and pans, while cake is cooling, wash up the pans that cake cooked in. Clean up as you go. That way you don't have too much of a mess.

In addition to what prettyflower86 said, I put a big flat sheet on the floor and under the legs of the kitchen table to catch everything: cake crumbs, drips of buttercream and fillings, luster dusts, sanding sugar, powdered sugar, dropped knives and spoons, etc.  Maybe I'm just super sloppy/clumsy, but it's really easy to gather up the corners of the sheet and shove it in the washing machine. I usually have a set of sheets to wash anyway.

I always keep a sink full of hot soapy water and drop things in as I go. I prefer to hand wash all of my baking stuff. I also wipe up constantly so things stay pretty clean. I do struggle with the floor staying clean, so I've got to put a towel or sheet on the floor. That's a great idea!
 

I get everything out that I need and as I use it or finish with something, I put it up right then.  By the time I have a cake in the oven, all my ingredients are put away.  I also do like remnant3333 and start with a sink of soapy water. As soon as a tool or utensil or pan is no longer needed, it goes in the sink.  By the time I'm done with the cake, everything is ready to wipe, rinse, dry and put away.

I have to clean up before I leave the kitchen.  It's just too depressing to leave and come back to the mess later, and clean-up time is figured into the cost of the cake as well.

I agree with everything everyone else said...I'll add that I force myself to clean up at the end of the day, because as jgifford said, there's nothing more depressing than coming down to start the day and having to clean up first. Even if your back really hurts (and mine does too) make yourself take the ten extra minutes that it will take to clean up. If you clean as you go it won't take more than that.

Those are really good tips above. Love the sheet tip!  I used to wait til the next morning to clean and it was depressing as mentioned. I tried an experiment - I timed myself doing certain things like unloading and loading the dishwasher. So now if I think I'm too tired to clean up, I know that in just 5 min I can unload and load the dishwasher. For me, when i think of it that way, it doesn't seem like as much work -

I make sure my dishwasher is empty before I start a cake project.  That way when I am finished with a bowl or spatula...it goes directly in the dishwasher.  The things that I wash by I do while the cake is in the oven or while my icing is mixing (my icing mixes for 9 minutes).

Depending on the project (like trimming a cake so it fits within the cake board) I put a large piece of saran wrap on my counter, then the cake on top of the saran wrap, so all the trimmings fall on the saran wrap.  When I am done trimming I move the cake, wrap up the saran wrap and the whole mess of cake scraps, icing, filling...is thrown away and my counter is still clean.
