need help with a skate park cake?

Hey y'all!

 

So my boss saw a picture of my nephew's birthday cake and wanted me to do one for her nephew.

She sent me that link and asked if I could do something like that, and wants me to put the DC shoes logo on the side of the ramp.

 

Couple questions, I'm still new to decorating and RKT and everything, so how do I go about doing the ramp?

 

Also, how to I put the logo on the cake? I don't have anything fancy where I can print the logo on edible paper and put it up so I'd have to draw it. Any suggestions?

 

She also wants the Happy Birthday to be similar to what's on the cake, is that royal icing on the cake? Because if it is, my writing sucks and I can't replicate to save my life. Any solutions with stencils or anything?

For the ramp I'd just carve a 9x13 and make sure when staking the sides up to put enough support so they stay standing. Wish I could help more on the construction of the ramp.

 

But for the logo I would do a frosting transfer. You trace the outline of the design on parchment/wax paper with a sharpie, then flip the paper over and tape it to a piece of cardboard...if you're going to put it on the curved part maybe tape it to something curved. Then you take frosting and basically outline and color it in using the image as a guide. I freeze mine to really get it to set. When you're ready to put it on the cake take it off the cardboard, paper and all. Flip the frosting side down wherever you want the image to be, rub the paper a bit to make sure the frosting is secured, then peel away the paper. Should work for what you need, and you don't need to buy anything special to do it.

 

For the lettering, it does look like they might have used royal icing. You could use the same instructions as the frosting transfer, just use a sharpie and trace the letters out, flip them over, and color them with royal icing. That will ensure that the side that will be facing up is smooth and you don't have to worry about freehanding anything.

Thank you so much for the pointers! Unfortunately I'll have to save them for a later cake, she just emailed me saying she needed the cake the week I'm going out of town icon_sad.gif I'm kinda sad. I was super excited about my first real cake order.
