ASomeone once said to me, "you know how you focus on the decorations, I have another friend who bakes for the taste..."
WOW. Thanks.
I am beginning to become quite irritated with a woman who has twice posted about how easy a particular cake on my facebook page is, and that all you need is XYZ and easy peasy, it all comes together.
It's true, it is a simple cake to produce, so why don't you go make your own darned page and post your own darned cakes!
Anyway, that's not what I said. I try to defuse her comments with humor, but I'm really trying to understand what her point is...

Ugh, this drives me batty. My (green-eyed witch of a) sister does this to me all the time. "Oh, your cakes are so pretty! When I bake, it's just to taste good. I worry about that, not how it looks".
Keep in mind, she uses box mix (not bashing it, just sayin it's not like she's using imported vanilla beans or splurging on the high quality chocolate...). And she's been super-excited ever since they came out with those frosting creations. You know - the packet of flavor you add to a can of frosting? She "made" cherry frosting for her last cake and told anyone who would listen how it was homemade. Gah.
Her other favorite line is "Oh, all my coworkers tell me I should start a cake business. I can't believe you did first, now I can't." My response is always "Please, go ahead. Plenty of business for everyone"! LOL - I'd love to see her try ;) I just hope Duncan Hines comes up with some new flavor add-ins soon!

Because people like to be rude for fun. No real reason. They enjoy pressing people....

A@ ellavanilla there's no point in feeling irritated because its obvious this woman feels jealous of you. If she was able to recreate this particular design she would have done so- she can't so she's trying to make you feel insecure and doubt your talents. Don't bother with her xx

You should tell her that Walmart has already cornered the market for cheap cakes made with fake ingredients.

I'd be tempted to go all out and say "oh, I thought you were bringing strawberries so I've made this DELICIOUS cake to go with them" and write rude words on the roof of my mouth with my tongue!
Lmao! Writing words on the roof of my mouth with my tongue tickles my palate!

Just tell the person "Good, one less thing for me to worry about. I'll bring a rutabaga casserole in your honor"! (no offense to rutabaga lovers of which I am one, but my family isn't!)
I brought something a trained monkey can make: green bean casserole! I enjoyed the dinner and the fact that I didn't work my tookus off creating a beautiful cake for the occasion!

Those who can, do.
Those who can't, but have their own area of expertise, compliment those who can.
Those who can't, and who have no talent of their own, belittle those who can whenever they can. Its all they have.
You are among the former, she is among the latter.

Perfectly stated!
GBakes the latest thinking is that all the alcohol does not bake out of foods. How much cooks out depends on the cooking time. The longer the cooking time the more that will cook out but you are still left with some.

Here's what to do with this woman. Go to her comment BAN HER then delete her comments. There's no reason to let people post BS on your page. I don't understand the idea that you shouldn't delete anything on facebook...If someone is nasty then see ya later!

Because if she's a friend of a friend then I was afraid of starting something... but you're right.
My favorite: "Is that cake fresh?" "No," I want to reply. "It is as tough as old shoe leather. That is why I have it for sale." But I never do! Also, don't question my prices. I went into debt big time to learn baking and am paying off my student loan. My cakes are first rate. You can get your cheaper cakes at Walmart.
What I can't stand is when I bring a cake to a party, I often hear " You need to get a job, you have too much time on your hands." At that point, I want to take my cake and just go home without letting them eat it.
AI've gotten that line before. "Who has time to do that?" It is my freakin' job, people!
AI once had a lady ask for a quote on a themed cake, I gave her a couple of designs and the prices. she text back saying, sorry, but she only wanted a topper made and could I do that? I later seen her in supermarket and she said 'I am just using a giant cupcake tin, have you ever used one of them?' my response was 'no, I carve all my cakes, including my giant cupcakes, that way I can change the design a little and allow for serving sizes.' lady says 'oh, I guess that's why you charge so much, maybe you should get a tin, it'd be heaps easier. oh, I am just using this (holds up box mix) do you know how many I would need?' I replied with 'nope, never used a box mix in my life so I don't know how much they make up, plus I have no idea how big the tin is' I had to fake a smile and walk away before I called her a not-so-nice name in front of both my own and her children. did I mention the party/birthday was the following day? so annoying!!
AI can totally understand that since not all recipes are created equal.

Is that like asking for an awesome recipe, I noticed that a few times in the last few days and I had to stop myself from posting that I only had crappy ones.

I love this thread.
How about a friend's friend who had us all CC'ed, after I quoted her for an event at her workplace, and she came back with an email saying, "Thanks for your reference photos and quote! But we found a colleague's neighbor who can make your cupcakes, not as pretty, but for cheaper!"
I really could have been spared knowing your alternative choice. It didn''t really bother me as much as it made me laugh.

You're absolutely right, although it's a very common assumption that all the alcohol cooks off, in fact if the pot is covered when boiling none of it boils off as it condenses on the lid and dribbles back in! I had to research this to be sure a few years ago and occasionally I have to quote it when eating out! pffff
Here are some figures from the US dept of Agriculture:
Preparation Method Percent of Alcohol Retained alcohol added to boiling liquid & removed from heat 85% alcohol flamed 75% no heat, stored overnight 70% baked, 25 minutes, alcohol not stirred into mixture 45% baked/simmered, alcohol stirred into mixture:

I would have probably written back to say "if they're not as pretty and cheaper, then they're not MY cupcakes! Please make sure people at the party know who made them because I don't want to take credit for someone else's crap."
AAre you kidding?!
I understand everyone has a budget. A potential (non) client decided I was priced out of range. Instead, they will be purchasing the 2 tier cake from Publix (grocery store). Only trouble? To save even more money, she has purchased the cakes individually. She will need to stack herself. She called to see if I would do it for her!! Really?!
Sure! Ill give you the supports for free, stack someone else's cake for free, and never see you again. You've never purchased anything from me, but why not?! Oh, & of course ill forget about my Friday delivery so I can do thi at YOUR conscience!
