Thats what I think of too.
In a different thread I was referring to some cakes as being grocery store ``birthday cakes``...you know bland chocolate, or dry vanilla with super sweet grocery store frosting that coats your mouth. Yuck, makes me feel like i need to wash my mouth out just thinking about it.

Hmm. For table use, I prefer a 50/50 mix of Fancy and A-Medium. But I've heard of people who actually prefer Vermont C -- the stuff that few have heard of, that normally goes into stuff like livestock feed and maple-flavored tobacco, because the flavor (I'm told) has some notes that most people find unpleasant. (I've only even heard of grade-C while visiting Morse Farm, just outside of Montpelier, and I've never seen, smelled, or tasted it.)
Re wedding cake flavor. I think the light almond flavor is what they are aiming for. Duff's ice cream smells like it, but the taste is kind of medicinal. The vodka smells good at first, but after awhile it's a little much. I have not tasted Sprinkles' cupcake.
Sometimes consumers are ahead of us. I got a request for a "chai tea" flavored cake. I had never heard of it, but, sure enough, Sprinkles has one. Incidentally, I tested a few recipes, and my version of "chai tea" cake tastes wonderful. The customer thinks so, too. I love a challenge.

I had a customer ask for a red velvet cake with cream cheese icing covered with fondant and sculpted figure. I knew she wouldn't be able to afford much and she was a friend of my husband so I quoted her $90, should have charged $180 with my normal pricing. Good deal right? Her response that's still a lot of money to pay for a cake. What would it cost if I baked and iced the cake and you decorate it? I told her the only way you could get this cake cheaper is to make it yourself. To teach her a lesson I offered to come to her house and teach her how to make the cake for $50 but she would have to bake the cake, buy the materials and have all the supplies and to plan to take about 7-8 hours to decorate. She spent $45 on materials plus $50 for me so she spent $95 on the cake and when we finished the cake at 1am she said I should have just paid you to make it. I win :D She will never get a discounted price from me again.
I love love love this story! I WIN!
Okay here's my favorite...
Getting a text, email, or picture handed to me from family/friend clamoring in excitement "wouldn't this be fun if we did this for ____??". And by we they mean I do all the work but somehow delegate them bits of work within their capability that doesn't compromise my final cake. And by fun they mean free. Like somehow them forcing a cake job on me is a gift because we can "do it together". Considering I do almost all my cakes for absolutely free this is becoming my LEAST favorite thing to hear. My big problem (of course after me not saying no) is that its always from very close friends and immediate family.
Unless you are a child don't ask to come play in my kitchen
AHere's a chai factoid for you. The term "chai tea" is a mistranslation and is redundant, since "chai" is the Hindi word for "tea." The karha spice mixture is what gives it the flavor, and the correct term is "masala chai". I was lectured about this by someone from India who said that whenever anyone says "chai tea" they laugh silently to themselves. But now it's commonly used, so I'm conflicted whenever I order one because I know I'm saying the wrong thing.

Here in the UK "wedding cake" is fruit cake, similar to what you would make at Christmas. Can't stand it myself, so when I was getting married we specified no wedding cake in the wedding cake!

That must be the site that CC blocks. Just google wedding bouquet flavor and creme bouquet flavor and you'll find them.
Edited to say: Yes, I forgot that there's more than one site that CC blocks.

So I found out - but if you look at what I re-posted, one should be able to figure out where I was :)

I tried to find that out a couple of years ago and never quite got a straight answer.
It's Friday night, I'm laying in bed with my jammies on. I have nothing booked this weekend and I have plans tomorrow to go the Ramen Festival (not my idea, well maybe it was my idea, but that's just because of the noodles...) The phone rings. I answer because my son is out and I will always answer anyway.
Hello I need a Spiderman cake for Sunday, for 20, but you can do 25 if you need to.. (what?)
Well, I don't think I can bake it for you and have it done for you Sunday morning. I am a custom order baker....
I don't need it in the morning, I need it by 1. (grrr)
I am booked tomorrow (noodles!) I just wouldn't be able to get that done for you (unless I baked all day) and i don't keep product on hand.
I am then on the phone for another 10 minutes answering these questions:
If I bring you a plain cake can you decorate it like Spiderman?
Can you just do something simple (with spiderman on it)?
Is there another place you can recommend?
Where is it?
Where??
Near where?
How do you spell it?
That's North on the five?
Is that towards the ocean?
Where do you turn?
Near the TArget?
On La Paz and Oso?
Jeronimo?
Where?
Do they make character cakes?
Are they good?
Where is it?
On the corner?
What's the name?
Do you know when they open?
Are you sure you can't just do it if I bring you a plain cake?
Oh my god! Lady! Look it up!!!
I was nice because, well, I'm nice, and because I don't want to alienate people, but for goodness sake!

This is definitely one of those cases where I disconnect the phone in mid-word and make it sound like we got cut off. "You turn right by the supermar-----". Agree with you. Look it up. Or as the kids say, "Google it."

Sure, I can make you a cake with a spider on it, just have to go outside and find one...
Google is a sadly underutilized tool. It really annoys the pee out of me when someone will ask a super easy question that would take them 5 seconds to look up. Smartphones aren't just for games people!!! Grrrrrr
AI've resorted to using lmgtfy when I'm feeling sarcastic. Only use it with friends (wouldn't dare with clients for obvious reasons). However I do have the urge to post the following link on forums/ cake groups several times per week: http://lmgtfy.com/?q=How+to+price+a+cake
LMOA...you got me!!! Actually I did but I had the g & t transposed the first time...
Thank you Lindsey! I do respond when someone asks me a baking or business question. But when I get a second question (hate when it includes "plz plz pretty plz") I ignore them. Now, I will reply

This is one situation where caller ID fails because they could be using someone else's cell phone, so it could be your kid calling...
