I just had my first Bridezilla! She was an old work colleague/kind of friend. She had changed her mind on the design three times, then changed her mind on whether she wanted sugar flowers, fresh flowers or fake flowers.
She messaged me on Saturday to check what the size of the top tier was so she could get the fake flowers made up in the right size and I had mentioned that I hadnt recieved my invite yet, but she said she had sent it, so she gave me the details in a text message.
Last night I emailed her the order form/agreement to fill out, sign and send back to me. It is required of all my brides to fill it out, so I have all the contact details of the venue, and the earliest set up time etc.
This is how the conversation went afterwards (She is red):

I don't think something is up because I have a friend like this. She just can't do administration. It's amazing too because she's doing her PhD at a reputable University so it's not like she can't follow instructions. She just won't. And she's like that about her own life. I emailed her the other day to ask her about how a job interview went and she was like "I didn't get it. Also, I totaled my car and I quit my job." And this from a person who has a mortgage. Yeah uh huh, "oh I just quit my job".... some people just don't get it.
I quit a full-time job once, with no immediate prospects for another full-time job, only a couple of part-time jobs I'd held the entire time I'd held the full-time job.
But I had a very good reason: the stress of that job was ruining my ability to do that job, and was also doing a number on both my sanity and my physical health, to the point where it was costing me more than it was paying me. The part-time jobs, on the other hand, were jobs where I seemingly could do no wrong.
Four years, two and a half months later, I was offered my present full-time job. That was a tad over 19 years ago. The four years, two and a half months with only my part-time jobs bringing in revenue were far less stressful than the year that had driven me to quit.
My niece's 7th birthday is coming up. Apparently she wants a brownie cake, and with her baby girl voice it probably sounds like "bwownee cake," which tickles me to pieces.
Anyway, when questioned about what a brownie cake was, my niece replied, "Don't worry, me and Aunt Jenny will handle it." I love her confidence. I hope I can! LOL

Me too. Walked off the job before noon. No prospects whatsoever. Literally cleaned toilets for cash under the table for about 6 weeks until I found a job for less pay than the one I'd quit. Met my husband, mad some lifelong friends, met my future boss who started his own lab and hired me on as his first employee for $$$$$. It worked out quite nicely for me. Money, mortgages, jobs, wedding cakes, these things come and go. As Tracy chapman said, "all that you have is your soul."

No, I was working for a small software publisher in Long Beach, specializing in the Commodore Amiga. The owner of which had bought, outright, a small-business accounting program, written in C, by an accountant who had never written a non-trivial program in any language other than BASIC, and who had absolutely no understanding of the "fail-safe" concept. It had an unfortunate tendency to crash. Turning the user's financial data into irrecoverable gibberish. Then, when the author of it refused to fix its hidden flaws, it got dumped in my lap. And I was constantly blamed for its hidden flaws, and accused of dragging it out (when in fact, it was becoming increasingly unbearable to work on the thing, knowing that it was a disaster waiting to happen).
Not long after I walked out, the next programmer to get stuck with that albatross finally convinced the owner to abandon it.
Can we maybe talk about something more pleasant, like maybe CAKES?
I had a customer contact me through facebook a couple of months ago requesting a qoute for a 2 tier zebra fondant cake with a hot pink bow for 20 people. I went through all the back and forth messages and finally qouted her a price of $126 and she wrote me back "that's great I'm so excited!!!! By the way you do accept food stamps right.
I was in public when I read it and had everyone looking at me like I was crazy I just could not stop laughing. Once I settled down I was a little outraged that someone would try to use money that was probably provided to feed their kids to throw a fancy birthday party for themselves.

I would sooooooooo love that cake. My favorite sweet - Candied orange slices dipped in dark chocolate. BTW, I'm closer - in PA :)
I've been enjoying this thread from its inception. Up to now I haven't had anything much to post...except now that I think of it-- I was making a cake for my sister's grand daughter's 6th birthday. We've always had a very good relationship, cake-wise and all other wise. I make our family cakes and she buys me new cake toys I cannot afford which I can use for other cakes. Win win, right? Well, her grand daughter asked for a very special cake and I agreed to make it to her specifications. We decided to make a cake like one of her paintings which always have a signature rainbow, with the usual children's sun in the corner,etc. I eagerly e-mailed my sister pictures of the cake in progress, the flowers that I replicated exactly as her grand daughter had drawn. I was floored by her response, "Aren't you going to put more flowers on it?" (Read that as, "aren't you going to put your realistic gumpaste flowers on it") I told her no, I was doing what I was requested to do by a 6 year old little girl who loves to paint. The real kicker came when she told me that she was going to go out and buy some fake flowers and add to my cake ! I told her that that would be the last cake she ever got if she dared to mess around with my design.
Well, all turned out well and she said that it was the favorite cake I ever made for her. We simply hadn't been on the same page and she didn't see my vision. She thought she'd be getting a veritable flower garden, knowing how I love to make gumpaste flowers. The birthday girl was delighted to see her painting come to life in a cake.
This is a long story since I can't seem to edit myself, but I'll post a picture so you can see what I was talking (at length) about:
Actually, it's somewhat difficult to make a non-perfect rainbow. But you can see why she was disappointed when she first saw a pic of the flowers...
Moral of the story: Do Not Tell A Cake Artist That You Are Going To Modify/Change A Design Yourself!

Thanks, Mona. I'm glad that my sister could see what I was trying to accomplish. I know communication can be a problem sometimes. I didn't do my usual sketch for her as she gives me free rein once a theme is decided upon. Her grand daughter was absolutely thrilled and flattered.
