I've always just used Excel. You probably already have it.

I haven't tried it, but I have heard Cake Boss software is a good program to use for pricing.

I use Excel.  If you don't have it, go to openoffice.org.  It's an open-source office processing package similar to Microsoft Office.

It's easy to use.  Just plug in the cost of your ingredients per recipe and sum it up.  Then of course you need to add on all the other stuff, but to get the ingredient cost it's easy.

I love excel!!!

I have a master list of ingredients and break down how many ounces are in the package, cost of the package and then Excel calculates the prices per ounce.  It links to my recipes spreadsheet with all the recipes broken down by ingredient.  Since all my recipes are given in weights, it makes it easy.  When I buy something, I can update the price and Excel automatically updates the cost of the item on the recipe spreadsheet.  It took seconds to link the two.

I have Cakeboss and I love it!! The only thing that I have difficulty with is determining the amount of overhead such as electricity, water, etc.  Then trying to figure out how much per hour I should be making.  How do you guys figure out the amount of overhead?

This is exactly how I feel! I love CakeBoss. I purchased it last night but you will still need to compile your annual overheads in an excel sheet listing and spread it over 12 months and then by the estimated number of montly orders.
