Hi,

I'm new to cake making and I'm looking for some advice for a cake I've been asked to make.  A friend has asked me to make a birthday cake for her granddaughter in a couple of weeks.  She wants a square cake with frills and dots around the sides.  I'm not sure how to do both without it looking too 'busy'.  Also, she wants a 20" x 20" cake and I've never done one that big before.  I'm just not sure what to do with decorating and I don't want to bother the family too much because the little girl's Mother died a few days ago.  I feel like the cake has to be extra special given that it's her first birthday without her Mum.

Any advice and help is welcome.
