Hello,

I've just made my very first wedding cake for a friends parents wedding tomorrow. It's huge 3 tier one (I got a little to adventurous seeing as this is only my 4th cake!) and I'm adding a bow and brooch to the top tier.

I've put the ribbon around the bake and made a separate 4 loop bow with a nice pearl brooch attached. The question is, how do I attach this to the cake. There's not much of an available lip for it to just sit on it. I'm worried that if I use royal icing to attach it it may seep through the ribbon?

I'll try and add a picture.

Thanks x

AHi Hailinguk, you can use royal icing...just make sure it is stiff and attach it at more than one point to secure it til it sets. You can also secure the center and loops with a skewer, placing them at an angle, inside the base of the loops so they are not visible and still use that royal "glue" for extra peace of mind. I do not know if you have attached the top tier yet, but if you have not, then let the tier rest on a larger cake board, while transporting it and have your royal glue ready to finish stacking your art work...just keep the royal cool, in transport,so it does not go soft and loose its strength. Hope this helps. Valerieb52

Hi There,

Thanks so much for your quick reply.

I've already stacked the cakes. The base is a dummy 10". I left this to set overnight. I then put on an 8" and let that settle over night and I added the top tier today. I put some royal icing down under each cake to help secure it and avoid shifting when transporting.

To think I was going to take it in on the bus (1 hour journey!). My friend will have to pay for a taxi for me to bring it in as it's so heavy.

Thanks for the tips ref the royal icing and skewer. If I can get my camera working I'll take a pic. I still can't believe I made it. I think I've finally found my calling :)

x
