Attaching gumpast flowers to cake

Hi can anyone advise how the best way to attach flowers, similar to the blossom ones in this photo?  PS once on the cake, they will be getting transported by car 100+ miles, so they need to be solid - Thanks

I think adding a solid base of buttercream to the back of the blossom should work.

I use buttercream to attach them.  Save yourself a huge hassle & apply them on site.

Use a drying/crusting b'cream.  I've put blossoms on both on site and in my shop.  It de4pends on how you drive, the weather and the roads.  that is a lonb drive and it might prove best to put them on once you are at the venue in this case.

Oh, I see you are in the UK....you might use royal instead.  I kn ow you add something to royal so it does not dry cement hard.  That would probably be the best cchoic for you.

Yes!! Take it from someone who delivers a lot of cakes!! Attach your flowers at the venue with royal icing!! You will save yourself so much trouble!!

Royal icing, and I attach at the bakery prior to transport.  I've done the ring-a-marole of waiting until I get to the venue, and what a hassle!  Besides, if the cake is fully decorated at the bakery I can take lots of photos for my portfolio.  I can't tell you how sad I am about several of my cakes that I never got decent photos of because I waited to finish decorating on site, and the lighting plain sucked so none of my photos turned out or they turned out too green or whatever.

 

Anyway, royal holds my very heavy signature peonies to a fondant cake, there is no reason it wouldn't be strong enough for those thin blossoms.

I use melted chocolate to attach all kinds of decorations, including flowers, to both fondant and buttercream cakes.  Works really well.

Thanks folks, I think I'll go with either Royal or choc.  I'm unable to apply them at the venue as the bride is transporting the cake to that good old place in Gretna Green where we English folk go to elope!  Thanks for great advice anyhow, I would never have thought buttercream would hold them in place, so that;s a lesson learnt.
