What do you think of the recent changes to CakeCentral? - Page 19

My post about the magazine was deleted by CC, so evidently that topic is taboo.

There. Their. They're not the same.

I hope I die before "your" becomes the official contraction of "you are."

I think the issue many are referring to is the fact that one used to be able to go directly to someone's photos by scrolling over their names and clicking a link to that member's photos all laid out.  Now one must scroll over the member's name, go to their profile, scroll down, click on view all photos and search through each album individually.  Most of us would probably be happy with a link directly to a members photos rather than "all posts" or "threads started" which are useful and interesting, but we want the cake photos first and foremost.

Prior to the change the most asked for change was to have the ability to sort one's favorites into albums to make them easier to search.  What was the one thing that didn't materialize in the change?  The ability to sort one's favorites into albums to make them easier to search.

Now, it just happens that I have both the time and the inclination to wander around the site trying different things and poking into all the nooks and crannies.  For those who have neither the time nor the inclination to do so, it becomes a cause for resentment when they cannot figure things out on their own and NO ONE comes to their aid, or perfunctory answers are given several days or even weeks after they have asked for help.  The length of time between asking a question and getting a response makes it seem like there's not anyone listening.

So, if you think to do so, please post in this particular thread when changes are made, and I know I'll see it then because I get the notice in my email.

One thing we all love though, are the emails we get for tutorials and different cakes.  As long as it's something we can just click on in our emails and get right to a spot, we're happy.  But we are all enjoying that feature.

.

There is a "mobile/desktop" toggle at the bottom of the page.  When you are in "desktop" mode click on the "forums" tab at the top of the page to get to the main forums page.  From there you can enter the particular forum in which you are interested or use the "search" situated just above the forums.  From within the forums you can start a new thread by clicking on "start a new thread".  HTH

On the subject of searching the forums others have suggested that it is much simpler to google whichever topic you are interested in followed by "cake central" and enter by way of the window, so to speak, where one finds the door to be locked.

I actually started a thread about it here:

http://cakecentral.com/t/757040/cc-slow-and-keeps-crashing

I got a reply, but no information wrt to when the problem would be fixed. Just that it's a well known bug. At this point CC has become really frustrating to use and I am considering quitting. I can't browse pictures, can't read the fora, can't even move my mouse without getting either a pop-up add, an error, or my page just freezing. And if it is not one of the 3, it's just extremely slow.

I don't have this problem on other websites, and my laptop works fine.

I don't mind being patient, but it would be good to know how long I have to be patient for.

Apart from these problems, I must agree with other posters here that I miss the old picture search feature.

It is not on topic to the issue of changes to the layout and navigation of the cakecentral.com website.

The reason a screenshot would be helpful is for us to determine the specific ads that are popping up on  you.  Many problems are specifically tied to the ad being served..

How do you know what the most requested change was?  Do you have access to our support and communication systems?  Are you manually tracking all user requests and what gets implemented?

My point is that I can understand you may have a feeling that this is true, but making factual statements like this without the actual data is misleading to other readers.

Hi KathysCC,

The mere fact that you had to spend a couple of months 'getting adjusted' to the new photo gallery is telling in and of itself.  No one should really have to get adjusted to something that should be fairly simple to navigate.   You post a picture, you click the picture, you see the picture.

It is certainly no reflection on you...but I absolutely HATE the way members photos are displayed in their profiles.  I think it should be an option as to whether you want to have them grouped into categories or not.  You should at least be able to pick which photo is chosen to represent that group.  Perhaps the newest picture posted should always take precedent over one that was done years ago.

I have pictures representing a category that I cringe to see.  I would delete the pictures but if it has been saved as a favorite, I leave those alone--not because I think the world is waiting for my genius designs--  I just know I've hated it when I've wanted to reference a picture I've saved from someone and they've deleted it.    And yes, I know you can click to see 'all photos', but to me, that's just another step to take that's unnecessary.  If categories are needed anywhere, I wish it were in the 'my favorite'  personal galleries.   I've saved a ton of pictures and hate having to root through several pages to find a baby shower cake I  saved 2 years ago.  If we had categories available to use in our personal saved photos area, then I could see all the baby shower photos I've saved....or wedding...or birthday...you get the idea...and not have to spend time looking  page after page and sometimes  missing it completely.

I have no problem with the ads (except when I accidentally brush my cursor over them and they pop up and start playing something).   I understand why they are there and I've actually used them.     I just think in the efforts to upgrade this site,  too much of what made CC popular was sacrificed in order to become more tech-savvy.   I feel we've lost the simplicity that made CC a welcome place for the tech-challenged home hobbyist as well as the professional.   But then as I said in an earlier post, I had the opportunity to participate in the change-over and offer opinions then, but I didn't so it's hard for me to complain too much now when I had the chance and didn't take it (not that I don't do it!   It's just harder! ;D  )   Thank you for stepping up and offering your help.

If I am ever on life support, unplug me...

Then plug me back in.  See if that works!

If the information I initially submitted in my thread wasn't enough to determine what the problem was, I don't really understand why it wasn't asked of me right there and then. I just got a reply that it was a well known bug. Anyway, I just uploaded a screenshot in the other thread, where it should be, to avoid confusion and cross-posting.

Thanks for looking at it.

True, I'll give you that.  However, you also didn't ask, nor did you offer that information.  Can you suggest what other factor would cause a user to be unable to even find the forum home page, because I'm sure that if the user had been able to find the forum home page s/he would have seen how to start a new thread and how to search the forums?  It would be helpful to have that information on those long nights when it appears that there is no one available who can help.  If more of us could do so it would take the pressure off of admin and reduce user frustration which causes people to stop coming to CC.

I wish there was a notification you'd get when you get a new favorite to one of your photos, the same way you get notified of a photo comment. Is that something that will be added?
Thanks.
