Vanilla pudding?

I've heard of adding vanilla pudding to a regular sponge cake recipe & am curious to try this out. My question is, do you add the pudding on top of the flour mix or minus out the amount of flour and add the pudding instead?

Just want to add that I've tried researching this but am coming up empty so any help much appreciated. The cake will not be a cake mix but rather a scratch vanilla sponge cake.

Just an update, I needed the cake rather urgently so decided to go ahead and experiment; I used 1&3/4 cups of plain flour instead of 2 and added a packet of instant vanilla pudding mix to the dry ingredient(s) bowl. Well, it turned out delicious, so moist and full of flavor, I'm just thrilledicon_biggrin.gif

Hi I've just read this.  What is pudding mix?

 

I'm wondering if we have a similar version in the UK but I'm not sure. We have a dried powder that we add to milk and whisk to get a thick constistency which you can use on trifles, in place of cream etc.  Is it the same?

Go to www. kingarthurflour.com  because they sell something called cake enhancer.  This is the starch that is about 30% of an instand pudding mix (the rest being sugar).

 

NO you don't need to buy their stuff...check out their scratch recipes for cake using this ingredient.
