I'm in a bind! Need fast drying icing recipe

I had a brain fart and totally forgot tomorrow is Halloween. I thought it was Thursday. I have a batch of baked cookies that I was planning to royal ice tonight so they would be ready for Thursday's Halloween party at school for my grandson. Now I have to ice them today! Royal icing will not dry in a few hours so I need a recipe that will.

I thought about just icing them with candy melts and I guess I will have to unless someone here on CC will rescue me.

Royal *should* dry in a few hours - at least overnight.  I don't understand why you say it won't.

Yes, candy melts is another option.

Yes kakeladi but I didn't have a few hours. It was around 6:30pm when I posted and the cookies had to be done and wrapped by 9:30 at the latest! I was afraid the RI would not be dry enough for wrapping and I didn't want to take that chance so I ended up using the melts.

I know it is after Halloween but here is a quick dry recipe that you might want to save in case you are in a jam again. I have used it many many times and I love it! It really does dry in a few hours.

What does the corn syrup do in the "quick drying" icing recipe above? I can't think of a reason why that would make royal icing dry any faster.  Otherwise, this is just the normal royal icing recipe that comes with any brand of meringue powder.  I find meringue powder terribly convenient to use over the traditional egg white recipe, but both always seemed to dry at about the same rate and take about the same amount of time to make.  It's just more convenient not to have to crack all those egg whites without getting a speck of yolk in the bowl.    I just don't get how it's a faster drying recipe, and would love if someone could pipe in with a scientific explanation.  I like science.  ;-)

The corn syrup doesn't help with quick drying at all.  It does help to make the icing look a little shiny.  Just remember that how fast your icing dries depends on where you live.  If it's really humid where you live, it will take longer for the cookies to dry.
