Ok, so I'll be making a cake for an order that's due next weekend. The girl wants a cake very similar to this: 

So I've been looking at it trying to figure out how to achieve the look, hopefully without RKT. I'm thinking that if I carve around the outside of each tier so that the middle is the same size as the next smaller tier, that should work, but I just want some feedback to see if you guys think that will work.
