I hate to make icing and therefore I have been purchasing it.  I am feeling a bit guilty about it.  I don't like the taste too much.  Is there any way to make purchased icing taste better.  The recipie I used to make used powder coffee creamer shortning sugar and I added vanilla and almond extracts and it was better but I am not sure I want to do all of that again.

Thanks

Hi are you talking about the type you make with butter and icing (confectioners) sugar? if so it really is very easy and much more cost effective than bought ones. if you really hate making it think about making it in large batches and then freezing in smaller cake sized amounts.

So long as you protect it well it will freeze very well for months. You just need to take it out of the freezer, get it back up to room temp and then re whisk to use.
