Can I layer two different colors of buttercream?

I have had a client request a cake with chocolate icing but she wants it to be PINK and asked me if I could do chocolate icing with pink icing over the top of that. It will also have a FBCT image on it too. Does anyone else have experience with this? I was thinking ice the cake with thin chocolate, freeze it, and go over with pink buttercream, wanted to check before I potentially wasted icing though!

I do layers of color sometimes,but it's usually for when there's a darker color and I don't want to have so much food coloring on the cake. For that I'd ice it white, then put a thin layer of the darker one over it. I don't see why you couldn't put pink over the chocoalte, but you might have to do two thin layers of it to totally cover up the chocolate.

Yes it can be done, I've put chocolate BC frosting tinted black over white BC frosting on the cake. To possibly achieve this unusual request. Either dirty ice or thinly ice cake with chocolate frosting chill, then cover with pink frosting, make sure it is a nice coating. Chill again after smoothing. With this on, I would smooth with the Melvira Method using a high density sponge roller instead of any scrappers, may lead into the chocolate bleeding thru. I HTH
