Dowel Rods

Thread Starter
I have no clue where to place dowel rods in my cake to make it hold up.
I am making a two tier cake today.
The bottom tier is a 2-layer, 10-inch square and the top tier is a 3 layer, 8-inch round. I think i need to at least dowel the bottom tier so it holds up the weight of the top.
Suggestions please icon_smile.gif

Center an 8" round cardboard on top of the 10" square and lightly mark the icing with a toothpick. Find the "high" spot icing in the area of the 8" circle and cut one dowel (I use straws--easy to cut) so that it's about 1/8th inch above the icing. Remove it and cut 6 (2 if using straws), or 7 (3 if using straws) more, exactly the same length. Place the dowels/straws fairly evenly spaced within the 8" circle.

The 8" cake must be on a cake board the same size.
