Wiring Sugarpaste (fondant) Petal Disaster

HELP!!!! I am attempting to make some peonies with individual wired petals but as soon as I try to manipulate (move them around) the petals the wire pokes through!!!

I must add that humidity is high and the petals are not fully dry eventhough they have been drying for two days! Besides the humidity problem... I am afraid that I am not using the correct type of wire. I live in South America and when I request specific wire at the store they have no idea what I am talking about.... Do I HAVE to use floral wire? Is this wire extremely flexible? Or should it have some resistance??? Is the wire I am using maybe to thick?

Also added some gum tragacant to my sugarpaste becouse I read that it helps it dry faster and harder. But I see no difference...

HELP please!

What you need is cloth covered wire, 22-26 gauge depending on the size of petals.

is probably closest to your "local" or regional source. Excellent cutters of this brand sold in Canada.

And the petals have to be thoroughly, absolutely, completely dry.

use gumpaste instead of fondant!
