So someone sends me a message wanting me to do a birthday cake. I tell her I will require 50% deposit by such such date. She tells me she is planning her wedding and hardly keeps cash on her because of wedding expenses which come up, so wont be able to pay deposit by that date. She asks if she could bring the total on collection instead? Helllllloooooo!!! What if she has to pay for something to do with her wedding on the day of collection? Tell me 'sorry I will not be able to pay for the cake as i had to pay for my bridesmaids bracelet'. I politely told her I will need the money to purchase inputs. She said she understands and will bring the deposit if she has it by the date, if not then she will make other arrangements. Fine by me.

Hmmmmmm, sounds like a diplomatic way of saying that she doesnt have the money to pay for the birthday cake. I think you did the right thing.

Why is she bothering with a birthday cake if she is so tied up with the wedding preparations? Out of curiosity, what was the design she wanted for the birthday cake?

Sounds like she needs financial counseling. If she's getting married I wish her luck.

Stick to your guns. It's a ploy to stand you up - either by not having 'enough' money or never showing up at all to pick up the cake.
