I'm trying to make ivory colored "crisco-cream". I don't have ivory coloring (although I could sent DH to Walmart if necessary). I made the icing with crisco which is pure white, but I put in colored vanilla. It's still pretty white and doesn't exactly match the ivory ribbon. Can I just put in the tiniest drop of brown? I also have copper color if that would be better. Thanks!

A tiny, tiny speck of brown paste should do the trickicon_smile.gif
It's hard to say if the copper will work well. It depends on the color you are trying to match. As I remember copper has a good deal of orange (or is it red?) in it.

I've also added brown to get ivory. Like the poster above said, just a little. Add until you get the color you want.

Well I added tiny drops of brown and got a light pink! So I added a tiny bit of blue, which neutralized it really well. Then I kept adding a little more and little more and it's a decent color (still not a great match) and it was more painstaking than necessary. So I'll use this icing for my crumbcoat and DH is off to WalMart for ivory coloring. Thanks for the help!

I end up with an ivory color when I use colored vanilla, and switch out half the shortening for butter (which is yellow). The icing tastes better, too.

Italian buttercream has an ivory tint to it.
