I swear by my AGBAY. It is honestly one of THE BEST tools I ever purchased.

This looks ok, but what about square cakes? How big does it go? If it's flexible enough to be used for many sizes, is it sturdy enough to be used often?

Buy an Agbay.

Seriously, Buy an Agbay.

I am a hobby baker and couldn't justify the expense to myself. (I don't think a thing about dropping $85 on Halloween candy molds and candy, but a cake tool????)

Boy, was I stupid. I read hundreds of comments saying BUY AGBAY, but did I listen??? No........

I finally bought one about 2 months ago. I'm in love.

3rd hand up for Agbay!

Have seen people waste more money on NUMEROUS cheaper alternatives - none of which performed as well (in my opinion)

The only good thing about that set is the knife. The lifter is REALLY flimsy, you would be better off with the Wilton one or a cookie sheet. The ring you put around the cake is only any good if you like their heights, you can't adjust them to your liking. Buy an Agbay, or get someone to make you one similar, which is what I did.

fcakes, did you notice that in the description it says the ring fits a 10 - 11" cake? I don't know about you, but I level and torte alot of cakes that are 6", 8" or 12" so something that only tortes a 10 -11" cake isn't very practical for me. Or am I reading that wrong?

I agree. Save up your money and just get an AGBAY. Used mine still warm right off the UPS truck and swear that my KA mixer and AGBAY will go out the door with me in case of a fire.

My Dad is an engineer and works with stainless steel - he saw the photos of the Agbay and basically made one similar with stainless steel square tubing and a couple of very long, strong, bread knife blades which he bought on the internet. I couldn't even begin to tell you how he constructed it though, too complicated for me. But it is fully adjustable heightwise with both blades. If you know someone who is good with DIY, they could probably figure it out, like he did. I couldn't afford the Agbay plus shipping to Spain, so this was a cheap way to do it.

In my humble opinion it's garbage! don't waste your $$ -- I bought it and is now sitting in my garage catching dust thumbsdown.gif --- even the Wilton's cutter works better than that.
Follow the experts advice and get an agbay...I have not gotten one myself since I'm a hobby baker, and I don't do that many cakes, but it's in my list of 'toys' to get this xmas icon_biggrin.gif

I know that this post is a while ago but I thought that I would put in my 2c worth.

I have this Zenker.

  • It will cut only as well as the knife that you use.
  • You have to rotate the cake to finish the job as the knife does not go all the way through (obvious because there is a small column that holds the tin together).
  • Large cakes are ok but I make smaller 8inch cakes and they slide around.
  • It only does round cakes.
  • It makes pre-set cuts.

Not tried it with nuts or chocolate chips so can't comment there.

So, all up it is restrictive but not bad.
