Coloring sugar paste black

Because I am relatively a novice cake maker maybe someone could answer what is probably a silly question but I would really appreicate some help. I have to color white sugar paste black and I use icing sugar to stop it sticking when I roll it out but the white sugar is turning the black paste grey what can I do? Thank you.

If you're thinking gumpaste you can simply purchase pre-coloured black fondant and add tylose powder to make it more "gummy". Too much powder and it can dry and crack. Making black is terrible I agree. This is what I do when I make figurines that require black but I find the fondant too soft. When rolling it out use a rolling mat so you don't need the icing sugar but if you don't have one a super thin layer of crisco with a slight sprinkle of cornstarch and you'll be much better off than icing sugar. I add cocoa powder to mine then add black gel coloring. I also do it a little at a time, letting it set in between additions gives the color time to adhere.
Just when the caterpillar thought life was over it bloomed into something beautiful.

use chocolate sugarpaste, and then add black gel or buy black pre made xx
