Can someone help me? I need a recipe for a thick cake batter so I can cake a zebra cake with the design inside the cake. I've tried all the cake box mixes and they are all too thin. When I doctor them up, it still doesn't work with the smaller mix sizes. Please help! It's so convenient for me to use mixes, but I'm desperate so I'll even make it from scratch.
When I need a thicker batter, I add more flour. Baking time may need a slight adjustment so keep an eye on the last few minutes. (Scratch baker, here; don't know about mixes.)
I find the wedding and 3d cake recipe on here to be quite thick, almost too much so! It is a couple of recipes down the list on the most saved.
King arthur has a zebra recipe that I have used with great results. Just google king arthur and put in zebra in their recipe search.

This is what I was going to recommend...
I recently tried it for the first time and it was so thick I had to spread it into the corners of my rectangular pan with a rubber spatula.
