Candy Corn Cupcakes - Flavor suggestion?

I am wanting to make candy corn cupcakes for work this month... I have found some simple recipes online, where you can make the cupcake different colors (the colors of actual candy corn) and garnish with sprinkles and candy corn itself. However, all the cake flavors are white, which is understandable since you have to color the batter to layer in orange and yellow...

any suggestion for flavoring the white cake?? It doesn't have to be overpowering, but white cake/white icing with some candy corn on top seems a bit boring and I would love to do something more creative!

You could always do orange cake for the orange layer...
Lemon cake for the yellow layer...
and then just vanilla for the white layer...

that is a simple idea... all depends on how crazy with flavor you want to go...

How about pumpkin flavour for the orange, and white chocolate for the white? Not sure what you could do for the yellow, though, that would go with the pumpkin flavour...

Pumpkin or orange flavor might work! I definitely want a flavor to fit the season. one flavor throughout would probably be better than multiple flavors for each layer!

I plan on making simular cupcakes too. What I plan on doing is using an indian color candy corn which has brown on the bottom. Im going to use a chocolate cake for that color and maybe orange flavor and coloring for the orange color and vanilla for the white. I hope it helps...Happy Baking!

thanks Deb!! I had bought a bag of candy corn that had both the regular and the candy corn with the brown bottoms as well icon_smile.gif both are delicious! I hadn't thought about doing the chocolate base. That's a good idea icon_smile.gif

I recently used Lorann oil to flavor a cake (white cake flavored with Irish Cream) and the flavor turned out great! You could always use this to flavor the white cake and the color doesn't have to match neccessarily ie. the orange layers doesn't have to be stuck on an orange flavor or pumpkin.

I love the idea of using the darker candy corn and doing a chocolate layer!

I think the chocolate layer is a great idea! mix it up! I'm going to have to give it a try icon_smile.gif it'll add some more flavor too which I love.

I would use a Marshmallow flavoring - I'm pretty sure you can get a Marshmallow Lorann flavoring if I'm not mistaking...I think I acually have that in my flavor collection. Candy Corn - they say/so I've been told - is marshmallow flavored. That is if you want it to taste like Candy Corn of course icon_smile.gif Or maybe even a Cotton Candy flavor to give it a candy flavor. Good luck - let us know how it turns out - Now I have the urge to make something like this too!

I ended up making a white cake with a little bit of vanilla and almond flavor. I colored three layers... white, yellow and orange, and made a vanilla buttercream to go on top with orange and yellow crystalized sugar. They were a hit at work (and with my husband), so that was nice icon_smile.gif

In my mind, the flavor of your cake is going to be overwhelmed by the frosting. If you wind up using orange and lemon cake, a very light-colored lemon or vanilla frosting on top would be really good.
