Hi

I was asked to make a Mickey Clubhouse cake, similiar to this one, and I am just wondering how I should make the mickey mouse house, foot and everything. Would be very expensive making it out of fondant and I have never worked with RKT :/ Can anyone help me with suggestions?

Hey! So your link isn't working but luckily my daughter watches this show all the time so I know what you're doing lol

If you're going to make something like a sheet cake underneath the clubhouse then I'd say you should try to work with RKT. As long as you make it yourself it really is fairly easy to shape. I did a Minnie Mouse cake and used homemade RKT with very little trouble icon_smile.gif

(Don't know why that link is so godawfully long..)
Another option you have is to sculpt it with cake. The main part of the clubhouse wouldn't really be that hard. Just round off the ends of a round cake to make a dome. You could also probably sculpt out the shoe as well, but in all honesty I think RTK is the way to go on this one. Much more...sturdy. Give it a shot icon_smile.gif you may be surprised at how simple it is. Makes sculpting easy, that's for sure haha.

Good luck. Hope I've helped at least a little

I was able to open the picture and it almost looks like the Mickey head on this particular cake is styrofoam painted black. If you look closely you can see a different texture. If the person that is getting the cake is ok with that, I would say that is your best bet because RKT covered in fondant will be heavy and you will need a "dowel system" or something similar to support the head and ears so they do not fall.

As far as the rest of the cake, it seems pretty easy and I agree with the person that posted prior to me that RKT is the best way to go or carved cake, whichever you prefer! When I use RKT I just use a simple recipe as if I were making them for my kids except less sticky and just form the shape that I need and cover in BC or RI depending on the look I am going for.

Good luck!!
