attatching wires to fondant

I made some butterflies for a baby shower cake. How do I attatch wires to the back of them to insert them into the cake? Here is an example of the cake.

wires should be inserted in them while they are still soft.

If it's too late for that, you can take a small strip of fondant and place it over the wire. But inserting while soft is the best way.

You could try using royal icing as well. If you have time, though, it might be easier to make more butterflies and insert the wires while soft.

You could use cloth-covered wire, put the wire on the back of the butterfly and pipe melted white chocolate over them. When it cools off it should hold them.

they would need to be attached using a little royal icing on the back, wire shouldnt be stuck directly in the cake, should be in a flower pick or a short straw as the wire will start to rust once in contact with a moist cake

Thank You for your suggestions.
What gauge cloth-covered wire would you suggest using?

I have 18 ga. metal wire which may not work.
