I wanted to ask what all should be used to paint on the cake with fondant/buttercream. I know color mixed with vodka is the solution. But can I use vinegar or something else also. Do let me know thank you
I use lemon extract. I think it dries faster than vodka. I wouldn't use vinegar. I saw a tutorial where someone used melted Crisco to mix the gel food coloring and paint with that. I haven't tried it yet. Thought it sounded interesting.
Yeh melted crisco def sounds interesting will try that n the lemon extract thank you... any other ideas are also appreciated
I think vodka is the best thing to use, unless you like the lemon flavor in your buttercream or fondant. You could also use clear vanilla extract. If you're worried about the alcohol, it evaporates so you don't need to worry about that.

I don't find the lemon extract leaves a flavor believe it or not. I've painted on buttercream and you couldn't taste it. I use it for luster dusting decor and the smell seems to dissipate too. I prefer it because it dries so much faster than vodka which I find really wets the surface and can leave it streaky. I have not tried Everclear which has an off-the-charts alcohol level so it could evaporate even faster than vodka.
