Hi all... I am just starting to get into wedding cakes...well One is due October which im just setting up and thats it... But are you suppose to offer to cut the cake and serve it to? Or is it okay to not offer that?
Thanks for your feedback!
It's very OK to not offer that. Especially once you're making a couple of wedding cakes on a weekend. You can't wait around and cut all of them!
I get a lot of cutting and attending work. Most of my wedding work is buffet work so it kind of goes along with the job.
I charge $25.00/hr and give it all to my 18 year ols daughter. If you aren't making $25/hr, it's worth it. If you are, you can split it $15.00 attendant/$10.00 you and hire someone. This is a lower rate. In bigger areas I'm sure this rate is higher.
When you do wedding cakes, you have quite a long liust of questions to ask.
You ask who is going to cut the cake, when you take the order. You can ask the more general question "is the event catered" and then you ask if the caterer will charge extra to cut the wedding cake...
You MUST make sure that you can deliver the cake if possible (charge a fee for this) because too many of us have seen our hard work get smooshed in the backs of cars.
