Help !!!! I was asked to make a crib cake w bassinet topper

I need any help anyone can give me!!! I was asked to make a crib cake.I have no trouble Making the cake my problem is the cake topper. There a few of the toppers already on CC.It is a baby in a beautiful draped bassinet/crib. It is all done in gum paste/fondant.The gum paste hangs above the bassinet and lays down the sides on bassinet/crib.(not a great description )It is from Linda Pawsey's Christening Cakes book. I tried to attach picture but was unable to. The cake is for a christening next Sunday. So please I need HELP!!!!!!

Is it the cover photo? What is your question? Is it how to make it? I have not made it but looking at the picture, if it is the same one you are talking about, I would make the top piece, the draping, first and let it dry supported until it was firm enough to handle and then would attach it to the bassinet portion. I did a rounded canopy for a bassinet, I took a styrofoam ball cut the bottom so it was flat and then cut off a part of the side so it had 2 glat sides. I covered with plastic wrap. I used a fondant and gumpaste mixture, covered the ball and used an exacto knife to trim to the shape of the ball. Worked perfectly. I covered the edge with small fondant flowers...maybe a pic in my gallery...can't remember. good luck

If its Linda Pawsey's topper design the customer is expecting, then purchase Linda's book and follow the instructions to make it perfect for the customer. This also gives the additional benefit of paying Linda for the use of her intellectual property.

Was this a last minute order?

If you want it to be completely edible, the structural pieces are going to need to dry completely to give any support to the drapings and I don't think you have the time for that. I would make the support for the upper drapings out of dowels or copper tubing since I don't think it will dry in time to be 100% sturdy made from gumpaste. The base could even be a rounded block of styro since it will be completely covered with the drapings. It doesn't *have* to be completely edible(unless that is what was promised), and I would say you are safer not going completely edible given the time constraints. It looks simple enough to make. I'd get cracking on it yesterday though so it can dry and stable for transport.

yes that is exactly what I need to make .I know it a little to late to make it for this cake but any info you can give me would be helpful. As far as buying the book I tried that all book stores in my area do not keep it in stock so I would need to special order the book. Which I plan on doing but each time I need help I can't afford to buy the book. Also it can take any where for 2-5 days to get in

Most reasonable prices for books:

New on amazon (or Indigo in Canada)--free in-country shipping plus at least 30% discounts. Books can be returned.

Used on abebooks becuase you can pick out the lowest total price as well as the free shipping some offer. I have never had a bad experience in 10+ years.
