Hi
I am from Pakistan and its really hard to get edible paste or gel colors. I want to make my own edible paste and gel colors. If anyone has its recipe or know how to make it kindly share or email me at [email protected]
Thank you
The biggest concern is to find the colouring material that is safe to eat.
You would need to purchase the colour as a powder from somewhere...probably Australia to be sure that you have truly food grade colouring material.
You can then grind this with some sugar and glycerine from a local pharmacy to make paste. I can access the formulas with some digging into technical journals.
There are some colours that can be extracted from foods like spinach or saffron, with a lot of labour. It doesn't work for reds (sorry I don't know how natural red colour can be made). You have to choose intensely coloured foods that do not flavour the paste.
Thank you could kindly tell me the quantity of food color, sugar and glycerine used in making food paste colors and about the sugar is it icing sugar or confectionr sugar thank you
Well here's a surprise.
I got as far as compiling lists of ingredients from manufacturers, and this turned up. LorAnn manufactures powder and gel and paste food colours. And they have an agent in Pakistan:
www.lorannoils.com/images/product/large/LorAnn-International-Distributors-2012.pdf look at the bottom of page 3. The bakeshop's link does not work (under construction) but the dealer should be able to help you.
LorAnn is a reputable brand of concentrated products. www.lorannoils.com/c-16-food-colorings.aspx
I will continue to dig for the formulas, but please see if you can at least buy the powder from this agent.
