Grey Fondant Turned into Purple!

So I was trying to make grey fondant and instead of using black food coloring I started adding small portions of black fondant( I made a while ago). After achieving the color I wanted which is a darker grey, I wrapped it up in saran wrap, a few hours later its light purple icon_eek.gif!

Any idea how to fix this? I'm running low on fondant so making a new batch is out of the question icon_sad.gif

I don,t know what happened. That is how i make grey fondant(using black fondant with white) Never has turned purple. Try just a tinge of black food coloring. Just a little bit and wait to see what it does. hth

Add some yellow. Yellow and purple are complimentary colors and when mixed they make grey. Just test a small piece to get it right.

The pH is off in your fondant - add baking soda. Start with a small ball of fondant, add some baking soda (start with 1/8 tsp or less), then add your color. If the color doesn't change and stays true, then you know how much soda to add to the rest. I suggest doing this in small batches and let them all rest overnight to make sure the color keeps.

If you add color and it still turns, then add more soda. then more color. It's really a trial and error thing but it will fix your problem.
