help with a cake idea.

I need some ideas for a cake . It's for a man around 60yrs old. He worked for the DFPA (douglas forrest protective agency for years ending in retirement there. In younger yrs he was a fire fighter through them and later on worked in management. I really would like to :
1. make trees, brush, a fire line, a hill or mountain and make it look like part of it is on fire. I don't feel like I can make a fire fighter but I can make a shovel, maybe a hard hat.
2. ?? on how to turn it into a management part. maybe a desk? not sure how to make one out of gumpaste.

Any ideas are welcome. It's an double layer 8" round or square. It doesn't matter. I have free reign to do whatever I want.

Hi fun--

It sounds like you want to put alot on an 8 inch cake-- it really is much smaller then you think- starts to fill up quick when you start adding things-- if you decide to add all you listed- maybe incorporate the sides of the cake into your design.

I'm trying to picture what you are planning- I think that your design will represent his younger years as a fire fighter-- not sure you could seperate the earlier years from the later with what you have described.

I'm thinking this is a retirement cake? Maybe just pare down your idea? A forest with a sign (wood like) saying- something like Gone Fishing-- and maybe add a heap of firefighter clothes and helmet -- and maybe a name badge or button up shirt with pocket protector next to the heap- symbolizing the jobs he had done but is now through with them? Or something along those lines??

If anything else pops into my mind I will post--

Thanks for the ideas. LOL they are cute. He retired a few yrs ago and its a birthday cake. LOL
He doesn't hunt, fish, golf, LOL nothing. I know it's a small cake to work with. They just want it to feed 10 people but don't mind having extra. I did think of using the side of the cake by putting some animals on it. I have a cricit wildlife cartridge. His wife said deer, birds would be great.
I like the sign idea but gone fishing won't work since he doesn't fish. Need a saying to go on the sign about taking desk job, management job then maybe hang gear on it. IDK. Maybe right MOVIN UP?
then somehow show small desk, chair, coffee cup and small logo on desk ?

what do you think?

Maybe you could make a fireman sitting at his desk in the woods putting out a fire in a trash can lol
