How Do I Make My Buttercream Less Sweet?
Baking By YamunaJivana Updated 13 Oct 2012 , 8:29pm by YamunaJivana
Recently made mango buttercream and followed this recipe:
1 stick butter, softened
3 cups powdered sugar
3-4 tablespoons mango puree
I had to add a little more powdered sugar to get the right consistency.
It was all right, but it was sooo sweet! too sweet!
Any recommendations ?
Add a little bit of salt to cut the sweetness. Use popcorn salt (it's finely ground salt) or dissolve regular salt in a tiny bit of liquid to get it to incorporate fully.
I heard of the salt thing too. I believe I heard about adding lemon juice as well. I've tried both. I added heavy cream to my buttercream recipe instead of plain milk and it made it creamier & not super sweet.
Not sure how that factors in with your mango puree. Too much liquid won't work. But, those are the things I've learned and tried.
I add 1/2 teaspoon salt to my liquid. Stir it until it dissolves before adding it. It is much easier to incorporate throughout the entire batch.
Thank you all so much for your advice, I think I will make small batches trying some of these different methods I was getting so frustrated, and since I do not eat eggs, that leaves out frosting like SM and what not
