FREEZING CAKES BEFORE ADDING MMF

Hi cakecentral family,

I keep seeing on videos and websites where people say to freeze your iced cake before you add the fondant. I have also noticed that there cakes are turning out a lot smoother than mine. So my question is "DOES FREEZING YOUR CAKE AFTER YOU ICE IT HELP WITH GETTING A SMOOTH MMF FINISH?" sorry about the all caps just want you guys to see the question.

Lol, no problem about the caps. The way I personally understand it is that whatever shape your icing is, it will reflect on how your fondant will look. So if your icing is bumpy, it will show on your covered fondant. Anyway, my point is that freezing your iced cake allows you to fix any imperfections by rubbing your frozen cake with viva paper towel since the icing will be hard and non sticky. Once you smoothe your iced cake you can cover it w fondant WHILE the icing is still hard from being frozen. I once had a problem covering my cake w fondant because the icing on the cake was soft. I kept getting bubbles underneath the fondant and the fondant also slid off of little. That s my experience.
