Can someone tell me whats the best thing to use to create the realistic texture of a football?? Thanks in advance for any ideas!!!!
I bought a small piece of plastic canvas at Hobby Lobby and just pressed that into the frosting - I use a crusting buttercream, but I'm sure it would work on fondant as well.
Good luck!
I use a real cheap paper towel , that has close to that texture of the ball in it. Crusting b/c and it works great. Dollar store, some where like that has it , I think grocery stores also has it. hth
I used a paper towel that had the little dots in it instead of my usual Viva and smoothed the cake with it like I usually do for smooth sides! I got a lot of comments about how realistic it looked.
Like the above, I used a paper towel with the dots and my grandson who plays football loved how real it looked!!!

There is a video on it here too. Super Bowl Fondant Football:

It's very tedious but you can press a small round piping tip into the fondant finish to get that nubbin look like you see on footballs and basketballs.
I too use a piece of plastic cross stitch backing to make the texture.
My local pizza delivery company also puts a piece of plastic mesh under the pizza, so I use that also.
Thanks for the link. We learn something new every day , don,t we. I love Cake Central!!!!!
