How do you do cutout large gumpaste pieces?

I am making a cake mimicking one of Lady Gaga's dresses, an origami crane dress.

See the cranes on the side, I figured out I need a heart shaped cut-out, roughly 22 cm across. I made my gumpaste yesterday, and today I attempted to roll it out. BIG PROBLEM. The gumpaste roles out to about 1/4'' of thickness before it starts drying out and it stops stretching and gets tough.

How do you recommend I get such a large cut out? Should I use tylose + fondant instead? Has anyone experimented with pastillage? would this work out for this? Keep in mind the heart shaped cut out must be folded and glued.

Any help would be appreciated!

I generally add fondant to gum paste when I want to make figures or something that needs to stay a little softer longer but still dry faster than fondant alone. The amount depends on how fast I want it to dry. More fondant - slower dry time. HTH! icon_smile.gif

If I am ever on life support, unplug me...

Then plug me back in.  See if that works!

Thanks. So will a fondant/gumpaste combo roll out as fondant? Because rolling out a large sheet of gumpaste alone was impossible!

I usually work with gum paste first by stretching and pulling it with Crisco on my hands...it seems to make it more pliable and easier to roll out. Mixing it in with the fondant makes it even more so. At least that's been my experience.
