Questions to start my cupcake business

hey guys,

I want to start my home-based cupcake business, but I have a lot of questions!!! Haha I would really appreciate the help of anyone who has their cupcake business icon_biggrin.gif

- how many cupcake boxes/inserts should I have on hand ( I live in Belgium and I will order them in the states because I will be there temporarily and I will be able to bring them to Belgium). I am tempted to order a lot because I can't find cheap ones in Belgium, but at the same time, I haven't started the business yet so I don't know the number of orders. I'm returning to Belgium end of September so I have to decided.

-how many cupcake boxes/inserts should I buy per "size" ( 6 cavities, 12 cavities and 24 cavities)

- when you need a special size of cupcake boxes for a special event ( for example, 1 cavity for wedding favors), do you prefer to have it on hand or do you order it from the supplier when you receive the order?
- it will be a home based bakery (I.e. No baked cupcakes of all flavors on hand) and I will have to bake per order. Do I make a minimum order per flavor? I can't make a batch of cupcakes for only 2 cupcakes per flavor.

- do I buy all the decorating tools I think I will need down the road from now (again, cheaper in the states, so time is an issue fir me) or do I stick to the
basics? My business will depend a lot on customized cupcakes, so decoration
will be a vital part of the deal.

Any advice or important notes you would like to share with me? As you can see, I'm a bit overwhelmed and every tiny piece of advice and information will be HIGHLY appreciated!!! icon_biggrin.gif

Thank you so much and sorry for the long post.

HI Sweetcups, it is difficult to give you advice on how many boxes you need, as we have now way of knowing how many orders you will get.

However, a little tip: ryepac .co.uk (remove the spcae) has a very good and affordable selection of boxes, also on a lager scale (packs of 100, 200 etc.)

I would start with a small amount of boxes and then oder larger numbers once you get a better feel for the numbers your clients order.

Good luck!!
