Cherry bread w/REAL cherries (not Marchino)?

I found a few recipes for cherry bread (vs banana bread etc.) using Marchino cherries from the jar. I was hoping to find a recipe using REAL cherries. Is there such a thing?

Maraschino cherries are real cherries (usually the Royal Anne variety), they are just preserved and sweetened.

If you do a Google search including the name of the cherry you want to use you should be able to find bread recipes that use fresh cherries. For example, searching for "bing cherry bread" came up with this:

You can get frozen sweet pitted cherries. I was just at Wal Mart yesterday and I saw them with the rest of the fruit. Have you checked at farmer's markets? Depending on where you are in the US you may be able to find them.

Look up any recipe for sour cream coffee cake, and make that with chopped dried cherries in place of the spices and/or nuts. Just treat them like raisins...

In North America these are commonly available in bulk food stores, and chains like Trader Joe and Bulk Barn.

Make sure you add plenty of vanilla--the fragrance of the cherries with the sour cream is magnified.
